🎨 How to color it

Color the pug puppy soft fawn with a charcoal muzzle, the woven basket honey brown, the tulips coral and butter yellow, and the daisies white with golden centers. Use sharpened colored pencils for the basket’s crisscross strips and the puppy’s facial wrinkles, then switch to smoother strokes for the broad leaves. Try a gentle spring gradient behind the arched basket handle, fading pale sky blue into mint green so the puppy’s round eyes stand out.

The story behind this coloring page

Marlo’s Basket Brave Step — Under the willow leaves, Marlo tapped one paw against the basket rim. Read the full story →

Under the willow leaves, Marlo tapped one paw against the basket rim. He had made himself a tiny challenge: step out, sniff the far coral tulip, and come back before the bees finished their sleepy buzz. The grass below looked cool and enormous. His blanket smelled like sun-warmed wicker, but the tulip nodded from across the path as if it knew his name.

Marlo climbed down. Pebbles pressed his paw pads. A burr caught the blue ribbon on his collar and tugged, tugged, until he had to wriggle free and leave it on a stem. “Just a little farther,” he whispered. At the tulip, he found not a prize, but a fallen petal, silky as a sigh and shaped like a tiny cup.

He carried it back carefully, not looking at the ribbon. Inside the basket, the petal held one bead of morning dew, cool against his nose. Next time you spot Marlo between the flowers, see if his paws still remember that cool, enormous grass.
