Beside the sleepy river, Oren lined up six pebbles and invented Moonbeam Trade. He wanted one shiny thing from each color of the rainbow before the moon yawned shut, so he stepped past the warm camp rug and followed the silver water. Crickets clicked in the grass. For red, he gave a berry to a tired beetle and got a red leaf. For yellow, he left his last cookie crumb under a small star and found a golden reed.
At the far hill, the wind smelled like rain. Oren had only one blue pebble left when a tiny tree whispered, “My roots are thirsty.” He dropped the pebble into the dry dirt. Plink. A spring bubbled up and ran home beside him, carrying moonlight.
Back at the rug, Oren had fewer treasures, but the river sang louder. If you trace its curvy path under the big rainbow, you might find where his blue pebble became a secret stream.
