🎨 How to color it

Color the truck cherry red, the recycling arrows bright green, the young tree leafy emerald, and the rolling hills soft spring green. Use sharp colored pencils for the leaf patterns on the road and tire treads, then switch to markers for the broad truck panels. Try making the tied tree a little lighter at the top, as if sunshine is catching its leaves above the truck bed.

Every day after lunch, Marlo rolled through the arboretum trail collecting fallen leaves in neat piles for the compost shed. He wanted his new game, Leafy Shortcut, to make the quiet route more exciting: one point for dodging a twig, two for bouncing over a root, ten for making the gardeners gasp. The air smelled like damp bark and minty clover as his tires went thump-whirr, thump-whirr.

Until one day, Marlo added a secret rule: if a leaf landed on his hood, he could invent any shortcut he wanted. Because of that, he zipped behind the sapling nursery instead of around it. Because of THAT, a bundled young tree bumped neatly into his truck bed, and a tag fluttered on its trunk: “Plant me before sunset.”

“Oops,” Marlo honked, trying not to giggle. Finally, he changed the game: one point for every leaf that showed the way to the empty hilltop circle. By dusk, the sapling stood where it belonged, and Marlo knew his rumbling, muddy, leaf-silly trail belonged to him too. If you spot the leaves under his tires, you might find the shortcut rule that started it all.
