🎨 How to color it

Color the shark slate gray, the reef corals tangerine and lavender, the small fish lemon yellow, and the curved aquarium frame cool silver. Use sharp colored pencils for the coral branches and tiny fish, then switch to smooth marker fills for the shark’s wide body and the open water. Try a pale turquoise-to-deep-blue gradient behind the bubbles so the shark looks like it is gliding through a bright indoor sea.

The story behind this coloring page

Dex’s Window-Ripple Race — Under the high glass of Ocean Hall, Dex flicked his tail and sent a silver shiver across the water. Read the full story →

Under the high glass of Ocean Hall, Dex flicked his tail and sent a silver shiver across the water. He had just invented Window-Ripple Race: start at the brain coral, loop past the tall sea fans, and reach the curved wall before the bubbles did. The water tasted faintly of salt and clean stone. Little fish flashed beside him like tossed coins, and Dex called, “Ready, ripple, run!”

He raced the wobbling line of light along the window. It bent over rocks, slipped through bubbles, and skimmed the shells below. Each time Dex turned, the ripple turned too, quick as a secret. Then something new joined the game: two shadows outside the glass lifted their arms, and their fingers made ripples of their own on the shiny wall.

Dex slowed, grinning with all his sharp teeth. The fish gathered, the bubbles rose, and the outside shadows waved as if they knew the rules already. Dex tapped his tail once, the children tapped back, and Ocean Hall became one big racecourse with water on one side and wonder on the other. Next time you see the curved window, can you spot the players waiting for “Ready, ripple, run”?
