🎨 How to color it

Color the mother dog golden tan, the three puppies in soft cream and caramel, the star blanket sky blue with yellow stars, and the bone toy bright red. Use colored pencils for the tiny blanket stars, swirls, and bone spots, then switch to broader strokes for the dogs’ fluffy fur and curled tails. Try a gentle sunset shadow under the blanket so the cozy dog pile feels tucked into one warm corner of the room.

Under the low lamp, the blanket smelled like warm cotton, puppy paws, and one mysterious crumb. Nico pressed his nose into the star stitches and practiced his first brave bark in whispers: “Rrr… rff.” His sisters snored in tiny puffs. His mother’s tail made a soft wall around them, and the wooden floor gave little creaks whenever someone dreamed too hard.

Nico wanted one real bark before bedtime, not a giant bark, just a bark big enough to bounce off the water bowl. He climbed over a sleepy paw, slid down a fluffy shoulder, and landed nose-first beside the old rubber bone. It had been stepped on, chewed, hugged, and ignored all afternoon. Nico tapped it. Plip. He tapped again. Plip-plip-plip, like a very small drumroll.

Then the bone answered with a sneezy squeak and popped out a folded paper star. Inside was a crooked note in pencil: FIRST BARK GOES HERE. Nico puffed up, planted his paws, and gave one bright “WOOF!” His mother opened one eye and smiled as the puppies wriggled closer, and next time you spot that starry blanket, you may know exactly where the drumroll began.
