🎨 How to color it

Give the duck soft butter-yellow feathers, the big bill a warm orange, the cattails cocoa brown, and the pond ripples pale blue. For toddler hands, use chunky crayons to fill the duck’s large face and neck first, then dab color onto the small cattail tops. Try making the two shiny eye spots stay white so the duck keeps that surprised, giggly look.

Until one day, something red zoomed by. Brrrrr! It was a tiny toy boat with a silly horn. Because of that, Willa chased it in circles. Because of THAT, the cattails wiggled, the clouds seemed to bounce, and frogs laughed, “Honk-quack!”

At last, Willa parked beside the noisy boat. “You belong here,” she said. Next time you see her big smile, can you hear the plip-plop, honk-quack?
