🎨 How to color it

Color the haunted house violet, the striped roofs charcoal gray, the pumpkins bright orange, and the two smiling ghosts a pale sky blue. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big roof shapes and pumpkin sections, and don’t worry if little hands color past the thick sticker-style lines. Try making every star a different candy color, like lemon yellow, bubblegum pink, and mint green.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Ghosts Follow Candy — A crinkly paper wrapper slept under Vella’s pillow, smelling like sugar and cinnamon. Read the full story →

A crinkly paper wrapper slept under Vella’s pillow, smelling like sugar and cinnamon. She had saved it from the first treat she ever tasted, and she wanted to know why the attic breeze kept whispering, “More, more,” through the roof cracks.

Vella floated after the smell, past sleepy bats and windows warm as toast. At the chimney, her wrapper fluttered from her hand and landed inside a pumpkin pail full of sweets. Plink! The whole house sighed happily. “Oh,” Vella whispered, “the house was hungry for giggles.”

Ever since, friendly ghosts carry candy to haunted houses so the rooms stay sweet and the chimneys hum. If you peek at the pumpkin pail, can you spot where Vella’s wrapper may be hiding?
