🎨 How to color it

Try strawberry pink for the cherry-topped scoop, mint green and vanilla cream for the two side scoops, golden tan for the waffle cone, and turquoise for the rolling waves. Use sharp colored pencils for the cone’s crisscross waffle diamonds and the tiny sprinkles, then switch to smoother side-strokes for the broad umbrella panels and sky clouds. Add a sunset twist by shading the ocean from blue to lavender while keeping the smiling scoops bright and warm.

Behind the closed driftwood snack stand, Cove kept one cherry tucked on top like a tiny red promise. Every low tide, the older cones whispered that the sea-bell rang from the rocks only for someone who could wait without melting into a fuss. Cove wanted to hear it, just once, so he slipped from the cool shade and crossed the warm sand, past the umbrella’s flapping snap-snap and the sandcastle’s crumbly towers.

The price was small but real: one sprinkle slid off, then another. Salt wind pinched his creamy edges, and his waffle cone felt the sun through every diamond. “Not yet,” murmured a crab from a tide pool, as if the whole beach were in on the secret. Cove stood still while the waves breathed in and out, in and out, until the cherry’s stem tapped his scoop like a patient finger.

At last, a silver wave curled around the rocks and rang—ding, soft as a spoon on glass. Cove carried the sound back sweeter than any topping, and if you spot the cherry above his smile, you’ll know it kept the tiny red promise.
