Between the snack tents and the hay seats, Gus made up a secret game called Star-Hop. The rule was simple: bounce over the little dirt mound, make the crowd shout “whoa,” and land before the popcorn smell drifted past his hood. But the mound was bumpy, the grass was slick, and his giant tires kept thump-thump-thumping without any sparkle at all.
Then Gus spotted the sky’s shy little stars peeking out early, even though the sun was still smiling. “Lend me a wink,” he whispered.
