🎨 How to color it

Use cocoa brown for the reindeer, cherry red for the sweater, pine green for the little trees, and snowy blue for the hat brim and pom-pom. Offer chunky crayons for the big antlers, round cheeks, and wide sweater spaces, and don’t worry if little hands color past the lines. Try making the two big buttons bright gold so they look like a secret pair of warm winter lights.

Behind the mitten room door, Orrin set himself a tiny test: stand still until drip, drip stopped at the icicle clock. His red sweater smelled woolly and warm. Two cold buttons sat on his belly.

“Wait, buttons,” whispered Orrin.

Tick-tick. Hush-hush. At last, the buttons went click-click and held the sweater snug. Ever since, winter sweaters keep buttons in front, right where patient hearts can feel them warm. Next time you see Orrin’s two round buttons, can you keep the secret too?
