On the highest ornament shelf, Ollie tapped one hoof on the glass floor. Tink-tink! He had just invented Shake-the-Sky: one tiny jump, one scarf swish, and one spin before the snow settled. The shelf smelled like pine needles and dusty ribbon. Ollie wanted to try the big middle hop, but his knees made little knock-knock sounds.
He bounced once. Snow puffed up like cold sugar. He bounced twice. Stars flashed past his antlers. “Here I go!” Ollie squeaked, and sprang right into the middle.
Then the whole world answered. Outside the globe, round ornaments wobbled, holly berries bobbed, and a paper snowflake spun as if it had been waiting for its turn. Ollie laughed and bowed to his new players. Next time you spot the tiny stars around him, can you tell which one heard his first tink-tink?
