🎨 How to color it

Color the seahorse coral pink with lemon-yellow belly stripes, the tall kelp sea green, the bubbles pale aqua, and the two little fish tangerine. Use sharp colored pencils for the seahorse’s fin lines, back plates, and tiny spots, then switch to broader strokes for the open water around the bubbles. Try a sunset-to-turquoise blend behind the seahorse so the white bubble highlights and smiling sea star feel extra bright.

The story behind this coloring page

Every evening, when the warm tide rolled through the kelp arcade, Quilla tapped the first bubble with her snout and raced the silver minnows to the last one. She had set herself a summer dare: ring every bubble gate before the sun turned the water peach. Pop, ping, swoosh—her curled tail spun her past ribbon kelp and the sleepy sand star who always mumbled, “Too fast, Quilla!”

Until one day, the bubble gates rose in the wrong order. Because of that, Quilla zigzagged after them and found the minnows trapped behind a curtain of tickly sea grass. Because of that, she used her striped tail like a corkscrew, stirring a whirl that pulled the grass aside. The water smelled salty and bright, and the minnows shot free in a flash of orange fins.

At last, the final bubble floated up beside her cheek, larger than all the others. Quilla touched it, and every gate chimed at once—ping-ping-ping—like the arcade had saved the winning sound for the seahorse who belonged exactly in its rush and swirl. Next time you spot her curled tail, can you guess which bubble rang last?
