Across the crunchy polar yard, Willa scooted to the round ice floe all by herself. Scritch, scoot, scritch! Her cherry-and-teal scarf tickled her whiskers, and the cold air smelled like clean snow. She wanted to sit on the floe before the lunch bell clanged from the igloo.
She climbed up, patted the wobbly edge, and whispered, “I did it.” Then the igloo giggled. Not a big laugh—a tiny bubble-pop giggle from one loose blue block. Out peeked a snow-crab wearing one of Willa’s dropped scarf fuzzies like a mustache.
Willa blinked, then snorted so hard her whiskers bounced. The crab clicked a little cheer. Together they sat: seal on the floe, crab in the block, both feeling brave and very fancy. If you spot that cozy scarf, imagine the tiny mustache hiding nearby: scritch, scoot, scritch.
