Under the whispery leaves, Pip poked thread through his pumpkin pail. He wanted a handle that would not bump his nose while he flew upside down. Snip, tug, knot—oops! The string drooped like sleepy spaghetti.
Then a silver moon-moth landed with a papery flutter. “Try a curve,” she whispered. Pip bent a twig, wrapped it with his own thread, and hooked it to the pail. It felt smooth, strong, and proudly lumpy where his knots sat.
When Pip lifted the curved handle, every little bat nearby gasped. Ever since that night, bat treat buckets have carried moon-shaped handles for upside-down flying. If you spot Pip holding his crescent, you’ll know which knots he made himself.
