Every evening, Bixby warmed his paws around a cocoa mug and tapped his tiny silver bell once—ting!—to tell the marshmallows to float in a neat line. The bell had belonged to his first mug, so he kept it tied to his sweater cuff. Until one snowy night, the bell slipped into the cocoa with a plip.
Because of that, the mug jingled every time Bixby took a sip. Because of THAT, the tree ornaments answered with clinks, the shelf books wobbled, and two pillows bounced in like guests. “This cocoa is too happy to hush!” Bixby laughed.
