Under the puff-cloud sky, Bix set himself a challenge: wait for three star-hops before curling up. “One!” he trumpeted softly, pat-pat-patting the warm moon with his toes.
The flowers bobbed. The blanket made a swish-swish sound. Bix waited, wiggly and wide awake, until another star blinked. “Two!”
Then the crescent moon gave a tiny rock-rock-rock. It had been waiting for Bix’s slow count, too. At last, star three winked, and Bix snuggled in. Next time you see the little stars by his toes, can you count the patient hops?
