Every evening, Coralie zipped through Bramble Alley with a basket of warm moon muffins, calling, “Fresh and fizzy!” as her wheels clack-clacked over the cobbles. She wanted to reach the clock tower before the last bell, when the bakers traded one muffin for a jar of cinnamon sparks. Until one windy night, a silver bell-moth bumped her nose and rang like a tiny spoon on glass.
Because of that, Coralie followed the sound past thorny vines and sleeping chimneys. Because of that, she found three mail bats circling in the fog, too cold to see the tower light. Coralie touched the golden buckle on her hat, and its glow spilled out like honey. “Take it,” she whispered, though no one was there to clap. The bats flew home, the moth rang clear, and Coralie arrived with an empty buckle but a basket smelling of warm moon muffins. Next time you spot the bats near her hat, can you hear the little bell?
