🎨 How to color it

Layer the spaniel puppy in warm honey brown, the curling vines in deep olive and sage, the lotus-like corner flowers in dusty rose, and the sunrise in soft gold. Use sharp pencils for the puppy’s fine fur strokes and the narrow vine curls, building color from the outer edges toward the center of each shape. For a quiet glow, blend pale peach into the clouds nearest the sun while keeping the puppy’s glossy eyes almost untouched.

Before the terrace warmed, Solene pressed one paw to a stripe of gold and invented a game: wherever the sun laid a thread, she would follow it without asking where it ended. The stone smelled faintly of rain and iron, and the great arch above her held its breath in curls, leaves, and cloud-shaped shadows. Each step made a new line appear—across her paw, along her ear, under the fringe of her chest—until curiosity tugged faster than her paws could move.

The game widened. A beam slid over the carved vines, and their spirals seemed to answer by pointing onward: left for a question, right for a maybe, up for a wonder too tall to bark at. Solene whispered, “Again,” and the word felt small beside the hush of the morning. Then the surprise came quietly: she was not chasing the light at all. From the round glass high in the arch, the sun was using her shadow to finish a map on the stones.

So Solene sat very still, nose lifted, while gold and shadow braided around her. The game did not end; it changed into listening. Every curl in the arch, every cloud behind it, every warm stripe at her feet seemed to ask the next bright question. Before the terrace warmed, one paw had found a stripe of gold.
