Every evening, Brisket trotted three circles on the round rug, sniffed the piney tree, and claimed the warm spot before the family sang by the window. He liked the floorboards creaking under him and the candle wax smell drifting from the mantel. Until one evening, his favorite spot went jingle-jingle beneath his paws.
Because of that, Brisket pounced. Because of THAT, the tree skirt flipped up, two ornaments rolled away, and a tiny tin whistle popped out from a fold nobody had checked. “Aha!” barked Brisket, which sounded more like “Ruff-ha!” The whistle gave one squeaky note, and the whole parlor burst into giggles. Finally, Brisket tucked it beside his scarf fringe and sat exactly in the center, where the songs were loudest and the rug felt made for him. If you find the spot near his paws, you might hear that jingle-jingle too.
