🎨 How to color it

Color the candy cane stripes ruby red and snowy white, the holly leaves deep emerald, the berries cranberry, and the narrow frame antique gold. Use sharp pencils for the small starbursts, berry circles, and curling border lines, then blend marker or pencil in the larger background panes. Try a cool midnight-blue wash behind the warm canes so the stained-glass center seems to glow from inside.

Under the roofless glass atrium, Renna traced the ruby-white cane rails as they braided through holly shadows, quick as a spark skipping along a fuse. She had come to count the winter stars before the syrup lanterns warmed and blurred the panes; each star chimed faintly when her pencil tapped her brass tally ring, ting, ting, ting, and the air smelled of mint, cold sugar, and polished metal.

The rails did not end where the map said they should. They crossed, curled back, and crossed again, pulling Renna into a faster path until her boots clicked in a rhythm the berries seemed to answer. At the center, where nobody ever looked because everyone was busy looking upward, one round berry opened like a tiny red eye. Inside hung a bell no bigger than a peppermint seed.

Renna laughed once, breathless, and rang it with her tally ring. The stars overhead did not answer; the canes did. Their stripes brightened from the hidden bell outward, and the whole atrium became a compass made of candy, pointing not north but onward, quick as a spark skipping along a fuse.
