🎨 How to color it

Layer ruby red into the three strawberries, use sap green and olive for the serrated leaves, and add butter yellow centers to the tiny blossoms. Use sharp pencils for the seed loops and narrow vine curls, turning the page as you follow each stained-glass channel. Try a pale aqua wash in the open background spaces so the red berries glow like warm glass in a window.

Every morning, Marisol ran the high vine rails of the glass conservatory, catching first light in a stoppered jar before it spilled across the berries. The jar hummed hot against her palms, smelling faintly of sugar and rain-wet leaves. Until one day, a copper sunbird shot through a cracked pane, feathers sparking like struck matches, and cried, “Race me, red runner!”

Because of that, Marisol leaped from leaf to leaf after him, and the jar shook so hard that gold light leaked between her fingers. Because of that, every blossom below opened at once, filling the hall with a bright, peppery sweetness, and the vines tugged free from their careful knots. At last Marisol laughed, unstoppered the jar, and flung sunrise into every curled border and seed-bright heart, too wide a joy to keep. By dusk, the conservatory still hummed hot with first light.
