Color the locomotive cherry red, the coal car deep navy, the smoke clouds pale gray, and the rolling hills bright spring green. Use chunky crayons for the big engine body and coal car, then help with the small wheel spokes and track ties if needed. Try making the three smoke puffs go from light gray to soft blue as they float higher.

With a clack-clack-clack, Juno rolled through Clovercup Valley and invented a brand-new game. Each puff from the engine had to point to the next fun thing: tree, hill, bridge, bend! The warm rails hummed under the wheels, and the coal smelled toasty in the tender.

“Puff says left!” Juno called, and the train zipped around a green slope. Then the wind gave a whoosh and pushed the smoke into three fluffy arrows of its own. The hills were not just passing by—they were taking a turn.
