Under the hum of the sticker-space lamp, Stella reached for the last silver comet to finish her name strip. It flashed like cold rain. “Mine for the middle,” she whispered, and stepped past the cozy alphabet shelf into the swirling spare-sky drawer.
A tiny starlet sneezed behind a ringed planet. Piff! Its points were dim and dusty. Stella’s fingers tingled from the cold glue as she peeled off the comet sticker and pressed it over the starlet like a shiny scarf. Nobody clapped. Nobody saw.
