Beside the hot, crunchy sand, Tavi patted the tallest tower of his sandcastle and pressed two shells by the gate. He wanted to make a beach map before lunch: castle here, umbrella there, big blue water everywhere. The wind flapped the little flag—flip-flip!—and gulls called over the sailboats. A foamy wave curled close, fizzing like soda, then slid away and left three bubbles in a perfect line.
Tavi hopped after them past the bucket, the sunglasses, and the shady striped towel. Pop, pop, pop! From the last bubble bobbed a tiny crab wearing a piece of seaweed like a scarf. “Wrong stop!” squeaked the crab. “Is this Shell Station?” Tavi laughed and drew a new map road from the castle gate to the water’s edge. The crab clicked along it, pleased, while the wave came back to carry the map out to sea. Next time you spot those bubbles near the wave, maybe Shell Station is open again beside the hot, crunchy sand.
