🎨 How to color it

Color the gnome’s robe deep indigo, his starry hat midnight blue with silver moons, the stone arch warm gray, and the floating crystals pale aqua. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny runes, hat stars, beard strands, and crystal facets, then switch to broader strokes on the robe and arch stones. Try a soft lavender-to-turquoise glow around the wand’s swirling trail so the magic feels separate from the gray stones.

Under the old stone arch, Quentin rubbed the plain star wand his mother had left him until his thumb warmed the worn wooden grip. He needed one clear beam to find the Moonroot passage before the tide-wind sighed through the caves and shut it for another year. The air smelled of wet rock and mushroom caps, and every footstep made a soft clack on the broken floor.

Then a shiver of wings brushed his ear. Cave moths, pale as breath, bumped the arch stones in the dark, too tired to find their sleeping cracks. Quentin lifted the wand for himself, but its little star trembled toward them instead. “All right,” he whispered. He opened his hand, and the wand spilled its light into the empty crystals along the arch.

One by one, the crystals caught the glow and held it, humming like tiny glass bells. The moths slipped safely home. Quentin never found Moonroot that night, but ever since, crystals near gnome doorways keep a borrowed wand-light for anyone small and weary under the old stone arch.
