🎨 How to color it

Layer deep indigo and chestnut through the owl’s patterned feathers, use silver-gray for the crescent moon, and tint the surrounding leaves in sage, olive, and fern green. Because the owl’s face, wings, and leafy borders are packed with tiny curves and stripes, use sharp colored pencils and color one feather or leaf section at a time. For a mischievous night effect, blend a faint violet halo around the moon and let a few stars pop in warm gold.

At midnight, Orlin settled on his favorite branch, where every vine curled politely and the crescent moon smelled faintly of cold chalk. He blinked at the stars, counting them in twos because odd numbers made his left ear tuft itch. The leaves rustled; the curls widened; the night seemed to lean closer. Then a tiny star dropped beside his claws, wearing spectacles and carrying a clipboard. “You’re in my seat,” it whispered. Orlin, after a dignified pause, scooted exactly one feather-width aside. The star checked a spiral on his chest, nodded, and the whole grove clicked into place around them.
