🎨 How to color it

Layer deep teal and plum through the gymnast’s zentangle leotard, shade the long ribbon in rose gold, and give the outlined stars a pale butter yellow. Use sharp pencils on the tiny spirals, scallops, and leaf shapes, working one patterned section at a time so the fine details stay crisp. For a calm twist, blend a faint lavender-to-sky-blue wash along the large background curves while leaving some ribbon loops bright white.

In the west alcove of the observatory gym, Renna tied a silk ribbon to her wrist and invented a game: touch three star-reflections with one unbroken path before the old clock breathed midnight. The floor smelled of wax and cold brass. Her alcove was soft with shadow, but the first reflection trembled far beyond the mat, under the great round window, so she stepped out where every footfall answered her.

The ribbon snagged on a screw in the floor rail. To free it, Renna gave up the fastest turn in her sequence and knelt, listening to the small tick-tick of metal cooling above her. One star faded while she waited. Then another appeared, lower and gentler, inside the ribbon’s loose curve. She moved as if carrying water: lift, reach, pause, release.

When Renna returned to the alcove, she had not caught three stars. She had found the space between them, silver and patient, and the game had changed. At midnight, the old clock breathed, and one unbroken path shone quietly in the west alcove.
