🎨 How to color it

Layer deep indigo and violet through the star’s sweeping tail, use antique gold for the large five-point star, and pick turquoise, coral, and pearl gray for the tiny planets, moons, and constellations. Use sharp pencils and color one patterned band at a time, following the tail’s curve so the leaves, scallops, grids, and spirals stay crisp. For extra motion, fade the tail from warm gold near the star to cool blue at the curled end, leaving a few background spirals pale like distant starlight.

The story behind this coloring page

Every night, Orla raced the patterned starway with a plain tin key tied under her collar, tapping it once against each gate so the sleeping constellations would swing aside. It was dented, dull, and lighter than a button, but it held the last laugh of her sister’s festival horn. Until one night, the key began to ring before the first gate, bright as sleigh bells on ice, and the whole route veered from black silence into a river of sparks.

Because of that, Orla chased the new path through peppery comet dust and hot silver wind; because of that, every locked star she passed burst open with drums, lanterns, and shouts from hidden balconies of cloud. “Share it!” cried the horn inside the key. Finally, breathless and laughing, Orla turned the key in the biggest dark gate, and joy poured out so wildly that even the farthest spirals rang back—tap, tap, tap, along the patterned starway.
