Between the fifth comet whistle and the sixth star-tap, Solvi rolled toward the Orbit Fair with a tiny flag clutched tight. She wanted to ring the Moonbell before the planets finished their loop, but the bell hung above the tickly dust where even brave numbers went quiet. Here is the secret: Solvi had practiced her “ding!” voice in a cup, in a crater, even under a blanket, and it still came out small.
The flagpole began to buzz in her hand. Not loud—more like a bee hiding in a button. Solvi almost dropped it, then peeked into the hollow tip, the one place nobody at the fair ever checked. Inside blinked a round little helmet-spark, smelling faintly of warm metal and peppermint stars. “I can try,” Solvi whispered, and set the spark over her head.
At once, the tickly dust bounced off with soft ping-ping-pings. Solvi rang the Moonbell six clear times, and every planet paused to listen. Ever since then, number 6 has worn a space helmet, just in case a small voice needs its first big ding. If you spot the flag in Solvi’s hand, keep the secret: the courage was hidden in the hollow part all along.
