Behind the flour jars, Mina rolled her tiny bell with one paw. It made only a dull clunk. She wanted one sugar pearl to make it ring, so she slipped out across the cool bakery shelf, past cookie jars smelling of vanilla and spice.
A soft scrape came from the tall Christmas tree. “Who’s there?” Mina squeaked. A little gingerbread baker stepped from a branch, holding a cracked cookie star. To reach the sugar pearls, Mina had to cross sticky icing that tugged at her toes. She took one pearl, then saw the star’s empty corner.
No one was watching. Mina pressed the pearl into the cookie star instead. Ting! The tree lights blinked like a secret thank-you. If you spot the star near the branches, maybe Mina’s tiny bell is still waiting behind the flour jars.
