Before the rain finished tapping the window, Finn pressed one last acorn stamp onto his handmade forest book. The stamp was cut from a potato, tied with a blue ribbon, and far more important than it looked: it was the first tool he had ever carved himself.
Ploop! The wet brown ink slipped, making a curly trail across his neat path. Finn held his breath. Then, from between the pages, a tiny paper squirrel whispered, “Shh—leave it.”
So Finn drew trees around the curl, added a bridge, and gave the trail a secret bend. Ever since, forest paths in storybooks never go straight for long; they curl where a proud hand made a mark. Next time you spot that little forest scene on his open book, see if you can find the first acorn trail.
