🎨 How to color it

Color the crooked castle stones in smoky gray, the jack-o’-lanterns in bright pumpkin orange, the bats in deep violet, and the tiny ghosts in pale blue-white. Use sharp colored pencils for the roof scales, brick patches, window panes, spiderwebs, and the little face on the flag, then switch to broader strokes for the path and bushes. Try making the sky a midnight-to-purple gradient so the crescent moon, stars, and floating ghosts glow around the tilted towers.

Every evening, Tully tucked squeaks into hinges, polished pumpkin grins, and counted his private challenge on one chalky finger: seven spooky surprises before midnight, no repeats. The haunted lane smelled of cold leaves and candle wax, and the castle stones clicked as if they were teeth. Until one day, the ghost on the highest flag sneezed—pffft!—and blew Tully’s list straight into the bats’ practice circle.

Because of that, the bats tried to read while flying and flapped in the wrong order, making the left tower lean like it was listening for gossip. Because of that, the moon slipped behind a cloud to laugh, the jack-o’-lanterns hiccuped sparks, and two shy ghosts popped up beside the path yelling, “Boo?” as if asking permission.

Tully chased his list to the front gate, shoes skidding on pebbles, and saw every “mistake” working together: crooked towers, wobbly bats, whispering trees, pumpkin light, and the flag ghost waving like a host. Finally, he wrote an eighth surprise: belong here. Next time you trace the winding path with your eyes, see if Tully’s chalk mark is hiding where the castle stones click like teeth.
