🎨 How to color it

Give the mermaid’s tail a sea-glass teal, the castle domes a pearly lavender, the coral a bright peach, and the little fish a sunny yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow castle windows, tiny bubbles, and shell ridges, then switch to broader strokes for the big domes and sandy seafloor. Try making the bubble columns fade from pale blue at the bottom to almost clear at the top, as if they are carrying music upward.

The story behind this coloring page

Past the pink tube sponges, Maris tucked three silver shells into her sash and swam toward the reef castle, kicking up sand that smelled faintly of rain. She wanted the first Bubble Parade to start with a pop-pop-pop so bright that every window would sparkle. Fish zipped around the towers like tiny arrows, and the seaweed along the gate swished as if it already knew the tune.

Maris tapped one shell, then another. Plink! Plonk! Bubbles rose in neat strings beside the tall roofs and waving flags. More bubbles drifted from the coral, round as glass grapes. “Ready, everyone?” she called, and her voice bounced off the domes with a cheerful wobble.

Then a low note rolled through the water—whummmmm. From behind the tallest tower floated a baby echo-whale no bigger than a rowboat, laughing in bubbles. Every time Maris played a shell, the whale sang it back, and the castle answered through its windows, flags, and arches. Soon the whole reef was humming. Maris spun once, twice, too full of joy to keep still, and shared the parade with every fish, shell, and starfish on the sand; next time you spot the bubble columns, can you guess which one is carrying the whale’s whummmmm?
