🎨 How to color it

Color the fox rusty orange with a cream muzzle and tail tip, make the tree stump warm brown, and give the spotted mushrooms red caps with white dots. Use sharp colored pencils for the stump’s long bark lines and tight growth rings, then fill the fox’s larger fur patches with smooth, even strokes. Try a secret glow of golden yellow inside the stump’s top rings, as if the fox has found something hidden there.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the safe blackberry arch, Rook kept a shelf of tiny wonders: acorn caps, blue jay fluff, and one empty spot just the size of a maple key. A perfect one had spun down beyond the fern path, beside the old stump where beetles clicked like little clocks. Rook swallowed. He had never gone past the last silver root alone.

The moss felt cold through his paws. He crept out anyway, tail tucked, nose full of damp bark and mushroom pepper. Halfway there, a burr grabbed his fur and would not let go. “Not so loud,” he whispered, though the burr had said nothing at all. When he reached for the maple key, his paw bumped the stump’s rim. A loose ring lifted, soft as a lid.

Inside lay a curled birch note: MEET AT MOONRISE—BRING CRUMBS. Rook forgot the shelf. He carried the secret home instead, walking a little taller under the fern shadows. And if you peek at that stump’s swirly top, maybe you’ll spot the loose ring before moonrise.
