Every day after drills, Kai swept the circuit vault and saved the interesting scraps: a cracked baton core, two magnet rings, three blue wires that smelled faintly of warm pennies. He had set himself a tiny challenge—build one tool with no help before the night bell. Until one day, the last wire snapped into place and his homemade bo staff gave a proud little zap.
Because of that, the floor panels woke up in the wrong order. Because of THAT, every step made a different sound: boop, squeak, duck-quack, boop. Kai tried to stand serious in his helmet, but the vault lights blinked like they were laughing. “Nobody heard that,” he whispered. The staff answered with a honk.
Finally, Kai twisted the magnet rings the other way and pressed the cracked core against the platform’s center plate. The silly sounds folded into one smooth hum.
