🎨 How to color it

Color the whole strawberries ruby red, the sliced strawberry hearts pink with pale centers, the spiral cream swirls vanilla, and the scalloped tart crust golden brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny seed dots, leaf veins, and narrow ridges around the crust, then fill the larger swirls with smooth circular strokes. Try making the center berries the brightest red, then fade the outer berry slices toward soft rose so the tart looks like it glows from the middle.

Behind the museum café counter, when the lamps hummed like bees in jars, Quill invented Crumb-Silent Round. The rule was simple: carry one sugared crumb across the pastry case, leave it where someone needed sweetness, and return before the silver tongs clicked shut. Quill wanted the smallest almond crumb from the fancy tart’s scalloped edge, because small gifts made the best secrets.

He slipped from his cool paper cup and crossed the marble sill. Cold tickled his seeds. A custard draft smelled of butter and lemon. Halfway past the napkin stack, the crumb cracked in two. Quill froze. The night guard sat nearby, rubbing tired eyes over a plain sandwich. No one watched except the sleepy clock.

“Shh,” Quill whispered to himself, and paid the price: he gave both halves away. He nudged them onto the guard’s saucer, then rolled back with sugar dust in his leaves and nothing in his hands. In the morning, the guard smiled at the empty saucer. If you spot the tiny stars near the grand tart, keep the secret: that is where Crumb-Silent Round began.
