In the sticker studio, under the papery smell of fresh glue, Gus set himself a grand little challenge: wink at every seed before the lunch bell dinged. He sat on his round sticker spot, lifted one tiny foot, and began. Wink, seed. Wink, seed. His leafy crown flopped over one eye, and the flower on top bobbed like it was keeping score. “No giggling,” Gus whispered.
The room stayed quiet except for snip-snip scissors and the soft peel of paper. Then a pink heart beside him made a squeaky smooch sound. Gus blinked. The heart had been counting too—one squeak for each wink! Gus laughed so hard his seeds seemed to wiggle. The bell dinged, the heart squeaked, and Gus knew he was exactly where he belonged: on his spot, with his bobbing flower, counting giggles.
