🎨 How to color it

Try a warm golden yellow for the sun’s face, pearl silver for the crescent moon, deep indigo for the starry swirls, and soft lavender for the ringed planets. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny dots, leaf veins, constellation lines, and patterned stars, saving broader marker fills for the moon’s wide curve and the larger cloud puffs. For a handmade-celestial feel, shade the sun’s rays from orange at the tips to lemon near the face while keeping the moon’s inner doodles cool and silvery.

The story behind this coloring page

Etta Measures a Handmade Sky — At the ink observatory, Etta set herself one rule: no ruler, no stencil, only her hand. Read the full story →

At the ink observatory, Etta set herself one rule: no ruler, no stencil, only her hand. She dipped a cedar pen into blue-black ink and began with a small curl, then another, letting suns, leaves, rings, and little star-paths grow from the hush. The desk smelled of metal nibs and drying paper. Each line wobbled just enough to prove she had made it.

By midnight, the room had gone silver. Etta lifted the page toward the high window, pleased with the crowded sky she had built from patient marks. Then the crescent moon outside slid across the glass, and its shadow fell into her curves like a missing gear. The swirls became hours, the stars became ticks, and the smiling sun marked noon in the dark.

She did not correct a single tremble. She wound the observatory clock by touch, listening to its soft click-click answer the ink. Her handmade sky kept perfect time, beginning again with one small curl.
