🎨 How to color it

Layer the ballerina’s bodice and tutu in ivory and blush pink, make the roses deep coral, and color the leafy arch in sage and olive greens. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny petals, vines, and lace-like tutu lines, working from the outer rose border toward the dancer’s center. For a refined twist, shade the fountains and winding paths in cool blue-gray so the warm floral costume seems to glow forward.

The story behind this coloring page

Behind the locked iron gate, Isolde pressed a dull brass locket to her palm and waited for the fountain to strike midnight. She had carried it through every rehearsal though it held only one black seed, a gift from the old costumer who had said, “Open it only when your happiness feels too large for your ribs.” The garden smelled of wet stone and roses not yet awake; even the gravel seemed to listen.

When the first bell trembled through the hedges, music rose from nowhere—thin as moonlight, quick as bees. Isolde stepped into it. Each turn loosened the locket’s hinge, and at the brightest leap it sprang open. The seed burst into vines, roses, and small shining leaves that ran over her skirt, climbed her bodice, and arched above the path. The secret was not a spell for beauty, but a way to give joy somewhere to grow. Ever since, when a dancer’s gladness cannot stay hidden, garden tutus bloom.
