🎨 How to color it

Try warm cream for the rabbit’s shaggy fur, soft pink inside the tall ears, honey brown for the eye, and teal for the round bowl. Use sharp colored pencils for the many short fur strokes, following the direction of each tuft around the cheeks, chest, and paws. Add a pale lavender shadow under the bowl and feet so the white fur still feels bright against the page.

Before the feed room lamps warmed, Bramble chose the roundest oat ring and set it at the edge of his bowl. He meant to eat it slowly, where the straw smelled sweet and dusty and the metal scoop gave tiny clinks in the dark. His whiskers brushed the rim: tap, tap. The sound pleased him so much he tapped again.

From under the bowl came a smaller answer: tip, tip. A beetle no bigger than a bean stepped out, its shell shining like spilled tea. “Again?” it chirped. Bramble tapped three times. The beetle tapped three softer notes, and the bowl hummed low, like a sleeping bell.

Then the wall answered too. Not with a beetle, but with sleepy rustles: finches in the rafters, a mouse in the hay string, even the old water pipe ticking along. Bramble pushed the oat ring into the bowl’s middle so every tiny sound could gather around it. His joy felt too round to keep in one mouth. If you spot the bowl by his paws, you may hear the first tap waiting to be shared.
