Behind the weather tower’s safest door, Nico kept a dare folded in his pocket: turn one rainbow gear before supper. The thunder room waited three floors below, ticking and hissing like a kettle full of bees. He pressed his ear to the stair rail, smelled wet stone and hot dust, and whispered, “Just one click.”
Down he went, past pipes sweating rain and arrows painted on the floor. A fat drop landed in his shoe. Squish. That was the price, and it made him grin anyway. At the center, the prism engine sat quiet, all glassy edges and shadow. Nico reached through the cold mist, found the smallest brass gear, and turned it.
Click. The room answered with a low hum. Rain slid into the prism, lightning stitched the walls, and a ribbon of color leaped out so bright Nico forgot to be scared. He came back upstairs with one wet sock, one purple spark on his thumb, and a new dare for tomorrow. If you study the storm engine closely, can you spot the tiny gear that heard Nico whisper, “Just one click”?
