🎨 How to color it

Give the gnome’s hat a russet red, the scattered maple leaves golden yellow and burnt orange, the pumpkins a soft pumpkin orange, and the rake handle warm brown. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big hat, shirt, and pumpkins, then switch to a sharper pencil for the leaf veins and rake teeth. Try making the wind swirls pale blue so the warm leaf pile looks extra cozy against the breezy air.

Under the pumpkin vines, Cedric pulled his rake with hush-hush strokes. He had set himself one small challenge: make one round leaf pile before the evening bell. The wind curled through the branches, whooo, and scattered his work every time.

A tiny mushroom shivered beside the pile. Its cap felt cool as a pebble, and the air smelled like damp earth. Cedric waited. He raked slowly, slowly, letting each maple leaf land where the wind wanted. “There now,” he whispered.

At last, the leaves tucked around the mushroom like a blanket, and it stopped trembling. Ever since, garden gnomes leave a soft leaf blanket for mushrooms before frost comes. If you peek at the pile, can you find the first cozy cap?
