🎨 How to color it

Color the stone house smoky gray, the fish-scale roofs deep violet, the pumpkins bright orange, and the crescent moon pale butter yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny roof scales, brick lines, arched window panes, and iron fence points, working from the tallest spires down. Try a midnight-blue sky behind the bats so the warm jack-o'-lantern by the open door feels like a waiting lantern.

The story behind this coloring page

At the end of Briarhook Lane, Cassian counted the slow taps of the iron fence in the wind: tick, tick, tick. He wanted to see the Moon Door open on the tall old manor, but the door only answered when every bat had crossed the roof without being hurried. The air smelled of wet leaves and pumpkin rind, and the pointed towers pricked the silver sky like pencils.

So Cassian waited. Bats stitched black loops around the spires. Bare branches creaked softly over the path. The jack-o’-lantern on the step blinked with candlelight, and Cassian whispered, “I can wait faster on the inside,” which made no sense, but helped his feet stop bouncing.

Then the crescent moon tilted, and a tiny traveler slid down a ribbon of light, carrying a rolled-up star map. She wasn’t opening the door for people at all; she was checking whether the bats had drawn the night’s safest roads. Cassian held the map while she dotted one last star above the roof. At once, the carved door sighed open, warm as cinnamon. If you trace the bats from spire to moon, you may find the same patient road Cassian found after the iron fence went tick, tick, tick.
