🎨 How to color it

Color the pirate’s coat deep navy, his feather bright teal, the tall flag ruby red, and the treasure coins shiny gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny skulls, coat buttons, chest gems, and wood-grain lines, then fill the larger coat and flag areas with smooth marker strokes. Try making the flag fade from red at the pole to sunset orange at the waving edge, like it has caught a secret glow.

Under the creaking dock lamps, Rook patted every pocket for his brass whistle. Without it, he could not call the crew’s midnight snack from the galley, and the warm smell of cinnamon biscuits was already drifting over the harbor. He stepped off his cozy coil of rope and climbed across stacked crates, barnacles scratching his boot soles, toward the old signal flag nobody touched.

The flagpole was sticky with salt, and a splinter nipped his thumb. “Ow—show your secret,” Rook whispered. When he twisted the round knob at the top, it popped open with a tiny clink. Inside was not his whistle, but a rolled strip of silver paper dotted with music notes and the words: PLAY TOGETHER.

Rook hurried back, cheeks bright as lantern glass. The crew used spoons, cups, and one squeaky chest hinge to play the tune, and laughter spilled louder than gulls. Then the cook found the missing whistle tucked in the biscuit basket, warm and buttery. Rook blew one note, shared every biscuit, and if you trace the tall flagpole with your eyes, you may find where the biggest joy had been hiding.
