Under the hush-hush moon, Caro carried a plain acorn cap close to her chest. She wanted the right roost before the cold wind came, but every branch in Sleepy Hollow creaked, “Not here, not here,” and smelled of dry leaves.
At the bare little hill, two young bats squeaked in the dark. “We can’t find the pumpkin patch!” Caro held up her acorn cap, and moonlight filled it like warm milk. The light spilled across her wings—pumpkin grin, cobweb curl, star after star—so the bats followed her safely home.
Ever since that night, moon-moths wear Halloween signs on their wings to welcome lost night friends. If you peek at Caro’s wing, can you find the pumpkin that first said, “Here, here”?
