🎨 How to color it

Make the smiling engine bright red, the smoke soft gray, the upper car’s round cargo orange, and the lower triangle loads sunny yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big wheels, cargo shapes, and train cars, and don’t worry if little hands color over the bold lines. Try making each circle on the upper cargo car a different fruit color, like apple red, peach, and blueberry.

Every morning, Rosco puffed past the rooftop depot with three cars: round barrels up high, triangle blocks below, and square crates that went clack-clack-clack. He wanted to finish before the station bell, because the bell made pigeons sneeze soot. Until one day, a raccoon in a floury apron popped from a cloud of steam. “Psst! Muffin emergency,” she whispered.

Because of that, Rosco hid warm berry buns under the round barrels. Because of that, the lower cars smelled like sugar instead of coal, and sleepy track workers followed their noses to breakfast. At the last switch, Rosco left the biggest bun by the signal box with no note at all. Next time you spot his grin, guess which car still smells like berries.
