Under the long table in the letter workshop, Pip pressed a plain H onto soft paper. He wanted the harvest banner finished before the soup bell sang. Around him, pumpkins smelled like cool earth, acorns clicked in a bowl, and dry leaves went skiff-skiff across the floor. Every letter looked too quiet. “Just one little spark,” Pip whispered.
He checked the ink shelf, the ribbon box, even the turkey’s feather basket. Nothing. Then a tiny tap came from inside the hollow A. Pip peeked in and found a sleepy seed bundle, striped, dotted, and curled like a cornucopia’s smile. When he shook it gently, patterns drifted out and landed on every thankful letter.
