🎨 How to color it

Color the large heart candies in strawberry red, bubblegum pink, and cherry magenta, with the tiny hearts lavender and the curling ribbons lemon yellow or mint green. Use sharp colored pencils for the ribbon loops and small dots, then switch to broader marker strokes for the open centers of the heart candies. Try shading the lower folded edge of each big heart a little darker so the candies look like raised sweets scattered on the page.

The story behind this coloring page

Zara’s Candy Compass — Under the striped candy carnival tent, Zara snapped a licorice ribbon into a loop and spun it across the sugar-sprinkled floor. Read the full story →

Under the striped candy carnival tent, Zara snapped a licorice ribbon into a loop and spun it across the sugar-sprinkled floor. She had just invented Candy Compass: follow the curl, hop to a heart, tap three sugar dots, and shout the flavor that matched the music. The brass band blared tart lemon notes, caramel drums went boom-boom, and Zara dashed from strawberry heart to peppermint heart as if the whole tent had been built for her sneakers.

More players joined without being asked. A jellybean juggler bounced in sideways. Two marshmallow acrobats landed with soft poofs and tapped the nearest dots. Each round made a wilder path: loops became rivers, heart candies became islands, and the little sugar dots seemed to glitter brighter under the lanterns. “Next curl!” Zara called, laughing so hard she tasted cinnamon in the air.

Then the tent lights dimmed, and the sugar dots glowed into arrows. They were not keeping score at all; they were pointing everyone toward the center ring, where every path met in one giant heart-shaped space. The band changed to a galloping song, and the game became a dance that knew everybody’s steps. If you trace the curls and hearts with your eyes, can you find the route back to Zara’s first licorice loop?
