🎨 How to color it

Color the horse a chestnut brown, the sleigh a bright cranberry red, the riders’ hats deep teal and plum, and the pine trees dark evergreen. Use colored pencils for the horse’s harness straps, sleigh runners, and tiny snowflakes, then switch to broader strokes for the open snowbanks and sky. Try a pale blue shadow under the sleigh and hooves so the white snow still feels crisp and fast.

Every evening, Orla pulled the mail sleigh from the mill bridge to the ridge cabins, with her small brass bell tucked against her collar. It was scratched and plain, but she lifted her knees higher whenever it chimed, because it had belonged to her first team. The runners hissed over packed snow; pine needles smelled sharp in the cold.

Until one day, wind rubbed out the road. The driver tugged left, but the bell rang hard to the right—clang, clang, clang! Because of that, Orla broke from the usual turn and plunged between dark firs. Because of that, the sleigh skidded onto a hidden trail where two children clutched a lantern beside a snow-buried sign. “This way!” one shouted, voice bright as sparks.

At last Orla followed the bell through swirling flakes to the warm cabin circle, where every window glowed gold. The old bell went quiet against her chest, and Orla stamped once, exactly where she belonged. If you trace the sleigh path through the pines, can you hear the plain brass bell choosing north?
