🎨 How to color it

Layer the bear’s main face in deep cocoa and amber brown, the inner ears in dusty rose, the eye mandalas in teal, and the leafy background in sage and cream. Use sharp colored pencils and work from the central nose outward, because the muzzle curls, petal points, and tiny eye shapes reward slow, clean edges. Try a subtle gold-to-bronze glow around the bear’s cheek petals so the darker nose and eyes feel quietly luminous.

At first light, before the ravens began their cracked-glass calls, Vireo stood in the old stone alcove and touched one claw to the cold wall. He wanted to add a single curve to the great carved pattern, just one, small enough that no one would notice if his paw shook. Dust smelled of rain and mineral salt, and the groove beneath his claw felt smooth from many careful hands before his.

The curve led into a leaf, the leaf into another, and the quiet widened. Vireo followed the lines around a round cheek, over an ear, down toward a dark nose polished like river stone. When he paused, a second breath warmed the alcove—not behind him, but from the pattern itself. In the carved eyes, a tiny moth opened its wings, wearing the same curls he had been tracing.

Vireo did not step back. He drew his small curve beside the moth’s shadow, and the wall seemed to hold both marks: the old patient lines and the new uncertain one. Outside, the ravens called again, softer now, while first light filled the cold wall where Vireo had touched one claw to the stone.
